Bio

Working under A Girl & this Kansas City based multidisciplinary artist combines the physical medium of yarn and crochet with the social practice of anonymously abandoning art. The overall intention of the work is to promote the reciprocal art of giving by abandoning crochet art on travels far and wide as an act of guerrilla kindness.

In addition to this ongoing public art installation A Girl & is also a travel writer and a social worker advocating for accessible, equitable behavioral health care.

Connection to the theme Home

In this project, “home” is reimagined not as a physical location, but as a collection of meaningful sights, sounds and experiences. While the material medium is yarn, the true work is the emotional experience it builds with the finder. The crochet balloon dog first stirs feelings of wonderment, imagination, and nostalgia, remembering childhood events, a birthday party, or a carnival. The finder is encouraged to consider the new home for the object they have found, but through the social practice of guerrilla kindness the new home becomes something more than four walls and a shelf. It is a personal exchange proving that home is an experience. It becomes the memories that are part of a larger collection of experiences one has through exchanges with people, places and things. It never has to be a specific location but instead a sense of belonging designed to inspire a belief that one can be part of a movement, the reciprocal art of giving.
