Sara Nicole Glass, known professionally as MissConception, is a Kansas City–born poet, emcee, educator, producer, and multidimensional performance artist whose work lives at the intersection of spoken word, hip-hop, flow arts, community engagement, and immersive experience design. Through poetry, music, movement, and audience interaction, she creates transformative performances that invite participation, spark curiosity, and build meaningful human connections.
A graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in Journalism and Creative Writing, Glass has spent more than two decades cultivating creative communities throughout the Midwest and the San Francisco Bay Area. She is the founder of the Jazzhaus of Lawrence Poetry Slurrrr series and the founding poet behind Poetic Underground Open Mic & Slam at Kansas City’s Uptown Arts Bar, which she hosted and curated for five years. She also founded VibeTribeKC, a performance artist collective and creative community that maintained an artist studio and collaborative performance space at 5504 Troost Avenue in Kansas City.
As a recording artist, MissConception has independently released seven musical projects blending conscious hip-hop, spoken word, electronic music, comedy, and performance art, including MissConception (Self-Titled), Ostentation, Saraswati, Serendipity EP, Sara-Tonin, Saramony, and Serenade. As an author, she has published several written works, including the poetry collection Class Action, the poetic memoir I Am Crazy_Recovered, her Pop Poetry publication series, and a children’s book inspired by family stories and Midwestern life.
Glass has performed at hundreds of venues and festivals across North America, including Burning Man, Electric Forest, Hulaween, High Sierra Music Festival, Harmony Park, The Lawrence Busker Festival, and the Wakarusa Music Festival, where she served for multiple years as Performance Arts Coordinator, overseeing interactive arts programming, flow performers, poets, circus artists, and immersive experiences. She has also appeared on stages alongside nationally recognized artists such as Wookiefoot and String Cheese, and has had the opportunity to open for acts including The Flaming Lips.
In addition to her festival work, MissConception has written, produced, and performed in three original Fringe Festival productions and has curated countless community arts events, open mics, workshops, and participatory experiences. Her work frequently incorporates fire performance, LED hoop dance, improvisation, character work, and audience-generated storytelling, creating performances that are as much about collective experience as individual expression.
Today, Glass serves as Director of the Weiner Religious School at Congregation Beth Torah while continuing to collaborate artistically with other organizations, hosting community events, and performing throughout the region. In her spare time, she represents the Heartland Burners Without Borders Chapter, a civic justice arm of Burning Man, and writes children’s stories. Whether on a theater stage, in a public park, at an arts festival, or among a crowd of strangers, MissConception’s mission remains the same: to use creativity as a tool for connection, transformation, and community building.
