We Are Home by DINKC
Project Description
My artwork is an original DINKC custom piece. Showcasing a little youthful Mexican skull character floating away with his sombrero, holding heart shaped balloons that say ‘We are Home’, spraying his artwork all over town.
I first wanted to illustrate a playful scenario that’ll attract the young eye and make them laugh. Showing that things happen in life that we sometimes do not have control over, but that we can still enjoy the little things and make the most of it. Who wouldn’t want to float away into the sky (away from all the troubles going on in the world right now and forget our problems).
Our HOME is currently being attacked and not safe for many of us. The constant “Go BaCk To YoUr HoMe” we hear spreading hate needs to stop.
The balloons signify how “WE ARE HOME” and spreading love is the only way to keep our home safe and stable.
We will protect it by any means necessary, thus the floating Cacti armor surrounding the character. (A symbol of Mexican pride, food, and important symbolism in DINKC’s work).
It is up to us to protect ourselves, our youth, our culture, our land, our freedom, and OUR HOME.
No one is illegal on stolen land.

Bio

Growing up as a Mexican-American in Kansas City and Mexico, Laedan Galicia, aka DINKC, became exposed to a myriad of street art, his two cultures, and an appreciation for Dia de los Muertos. This led to the early combination of intricately detailed line work, bold illustrations, and skulls, which later manifested in the development of his artistic style.
In 2012 Laedan built his creative studio powered by illustrative design and a deathly obsession with skulls which immediately drove his passion to new heights through the exploration of both fine and commercial art. Influenced by Mexican street market tradition of turning art into accessible commercial items, Laedan strived to merge his artwork and merchandise together to form the DINKC brand. After creating all the necessary brand elements, Laedan began making actual products and participating in various events. This ranged from gallery work, live painting, murals, merchandise, apparel, show curation and now TATTOOS.
As the brand grew into something tangible, so did interest from other creatives/companies. Since then, he has lived/worked in New York and Denver for seven years. Shown in Chicago, Tucson, Philadelphia, Mexico and the UK. Recently returning to his home town of Kansas City to continue pursuing and expanding his art career and establish a brick and mortar studio/gallery for the community. Through this space he hopes to expand his personal work, and continue pushing the boundaries of curation while working with various artists, creatives, and local entrepreneurs.
