Closing Reception, Kansas City Public Library – Central Library, October 2nd, 5:30 PM

Bio: I have lived in Kansas City for over 10 years now and prior to being a full-time musician I worked in foster care and adoption as well as being a member of the arts community. I would like to perform a set of original songs inspired by my personal engagement and with the Kansas City community. I would describe how some of these songs were inspired and give members of the audience the opportunity to ask what they might wonder after hearing songs or anything that it may have inspired them to consider. It’s a simple idea, but I think it could allow an opportunity for an energetic exchange.

In connection to the theme: The way that songs are inspired through the interactions and experiences of daily life in ways that are relatable to people beyond myself is a thing of wonder. I am always wondering what these songs are stirring up in people who hear them and how that energy might be related to the world around them.

Artist Interview

By: Lilly Gerend

David Luther is a Kansas City Local Singer-Songwriter. His performance will feature a number of original songs written here in KC inspired by David’s own personal experiences and connections to the community, and glimpses into his life from the past 15 years. david luther

As a part of Davids performance, he encourages dialougue and conversation about what his music and lyrics invoke for the audience members. This creates variety and a dynamic audience interaction that help David see into the eyes of passersby and take inspiration from what he finds.

Old songs can get tired, but the element of newness exists everywhere and this is something David strongly believes. Time and place can strongly impact the outcome of a performance and allows from growth and exploration to exist in a fully flushed out art piece.

“Being a part of the Kansas City art community, and the Art in the Loop family means that who I am and what means the most to me is seen and valued in a way that feels significant.  It encourages me to continue making connections in my community and lifting up other artists who are working to find their place in our community,” he says.

Thank you so much to David for contributing his original pieces to our season and we encourage everyone to attend our closing reception held on October 2nd, at 5:30 P.M. in the Kansas City Public Library – Central Library!
