Danielle Ate the Sandwich

Bio: Danielle Ate the Sandwich is the stage name of Danielle Anderson, a songwriter, recording artist, and comedic performer based in Kansas City, MO. Performing original comedy characters since 2019, Danielle creates a world where anything is possible. Her characters are outlandish, absurd, deeply flawed and deeply relatable. Through monologue and original songs, they explore love, hope, identity, friendship, expectation, disappointment, and vulnerability. Danielle Ate the Sandwich creates performances that are an interactive shared experience, celebrating what it is to be human.

Danielle’s first one woman stage show ‘The Greatest Garage Sale Ever’ was the winner of “Best of Bird Comedy Theater”, “Made in KC” and the “Englewood Partnership Programs” Awards at KC Fringe 2024. Danielle was awarded a two year Charlotte Street Studio Residency in 2023, and was an ArtsKC Inspiration Grant Recipient in 2024.

Jerry “Jer” Slougherman is an original comedy character created by Danielle Ate the Sandwich. Jer is also a singer/songwriter best known for his children’s music and performing story time hours at the library. Jer is CPR/First Aid certified. He achieved honorable mention for his children’s album “What’s That Floating in the Bathtub?” at the 1991 Dayton Folk Festival.

In connection to the theme: I am searching for more joy in my life and artistic practice, and celebrating the moments I can bring wonder to others through laughter and song. As I grow my performance skills, I am challenging myself to bring absurdity, and unexpected, original characters into more spaces. I find instant inspiration and wonder while performing as Jer, a children’s folk singer character, I created in 2022. Jer is a positive, curious, and compassionate person who works to make everyone feel seen and validated. Spreading joy through audience interaction, guided affirmations, and songs, Jer believes in the power of music to help others feel special. He uses music to connect, explore and celebrate our deepest emotions and experiences. We’re all just human, and that’s a very special thing!
