The History Vendor

The History Vendor is a participatory art installation using iconic vending machines to freely dispense historic photographs and stories of the area surrounding City Market Park. Providing a map and delivering the photographs through a machine closely associated with childhood encourages an element of play and youthful adventure as participants hunt for the site of the original photographs. City Market Park is located at 3rd and Main Street.

Kansas City-based artist, Chris Dahlquist learned to use a camera and darkroom as she was learning to ride a bicycle and write in cursive. Originally from Fort Worth, she wrote her first artist statement on a Big Chief tablet in phonetic Texan, claiming for herself a life of travel and “tacking pitchers”. She has held a camera in her hands ever since.
